FAQ

What is Starlit?

Starlit is an EPUB reader for iPhone and iPad. Select any text for an explanation in context, ask a follow-up, or hear it spoken aloud.

Who is Starlit for?

Readers who enjoy books that ask a little more of them: classics, unfamiliar subjects, or books in a second language. If curiosity keeps interrupting your reading, Starlit helps you ask without leaving the page.

What can I read?

EPUB files only for now. PDFs and illustrated books are not yet supported.

How do credits work?

AI lookup and AI speech credits come in separate bundles. Each request uses one credit; cached lookups and same-voice replays use none.

Do credits expire?

No. Credits never expire. They can only be used while Starlit’s AI service is available.

What is always free?

Reading is always free. AI features are optional; the system dictionary, Apple Translate, and your device’s built-in voice use no credits.

Can I read offline?

Yes. You can keep reading offline and use the system dictionary and built-in voice. AI explanations and AI speech require a connection.

How is it different from Kindle or Apple Books?

Starlit doesn’t have a bookshop — you bring your own books. It focuses on going deeper into what you read, not expanding your library.

How is it different from ChatGPT with an EPUB?

Think of it as ChatGPT with an EPUB — only less chatty. One tap gets you an answer, then returns you to the book.

Which languages are supported?

English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Your choice applies to both the interface and AI explanations. If you’d like another language, tell us through Support.
